Two Weeks In
Oct. 16th, 2024 04:00 amNot gonna lie, I didn't expect I'd be so decently engaged with Dreamwidth at this point. I've heard that this site is a Livejournal fork? I was never on Livejournal as a kid, so it's not a familiar format to me. But there are things I like about it now.
I appreciate that the site is so text-heavy and encourages you to put out substantive thoughts. I actually enjoy building a feed (or "reading page"). I'm not going act like I'm so above the conveniences of bigger sites (yannow, however toxic) that I don't get a little frustrated without an algorithm. But there's fun in searching for new people when it's totally self-directed.
One thing I did on Cohost is that, when I got comfortable with the people I was following, I kinda stopped searching for new ones. I also never felt as compelled to leave comments. Dreamwidth gives me a different vibe--it still takes a little effort to do these things, but I kinda want to more? I enjoy the "circle" system and seeing who the people I like, like. And it feels a little weirder to just passively scroll on here, I dunno. Maybe something about the layout. Or it's just me.
I'm glad to see that there's original fiction on here. I've never been super into fandom culture (besides furry, but I count it as more of a "scene" than a "fandom") or fanfiction, and I did have this idea that that's what I should expect from DW? Fandoms are definitely present, but I'm glad there's other stuff, too.
Don't wanna promise the world or anything, but I do have some projects which could be a good fit to share on Dreamwidth. You'll see those...when you see those. Eventually. Lol.
Anyways, thanks for the mutual subscriptions to the people who did that. (Though, again, as far as I can tell, a couple of you are not furries/kinksters/ageplayers so...welcome aboard! For real! But that's the content that's gonna be here, so...there ya go.)
OK that's pretty much it, just an update and some meta-Dreawidth / post-Cohost talk. Fanks! :3
